Bob Marley began to set in motion his dreams of becoming a singer and musician, to escape from the austerity of the common everyday source of revenue that had befelled most Ghetto youths of Jamaica. Jimmy Cliff aged of 14 was already he enjoying success as a singer with two hits already in his locker. Jimmy Cliff and Bob Marley became good friends leading to Bob Marley being introduced to Leslie Kong by Jimmy Cliff of the film; The Harder They Come in which Jimmy Cliff played the character Ivanhoe Rhygin and sang the film's title tune. Leslie Kong a record producer and owner of the Beverly recording studio in Kingston. Leslie Kong gave Bob Marley an audition, and during his audition, Bob's musical potential had extended beyond the other artists in Kong's recording studio. Bob Marley recorded his first single entitled "Judge Not" under the guidance of Leslie Kong! Regrettably, "Judge Not" did not caused music lovers to dip into their pockets, and neither did his second single that recorded in 1962, did not even raised eyebrows of the record buyer and record collectors! No one really cared for "One More Cup of Coffee!" Regretfully, Bob Marley was not having any success with producer Leslie Kong. It was pretty clear that Bob Marley would be looking elsewhere to become successful singing artists. | | Bob Marley then teamed up with Neville O'Reily Livingston who later changed his name to Bunny Wailer. Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer practiced in the yard at the back of a friend's with Bunny playing along on his made guitar made from a large sardine can with electric wires as strings. Both Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer would practice their vocal harmonizing, but when the weekend came, together they began their Saturday nights binge of rendezvousing the local night clubs blues dance and dancehalls in Kingston, Jamaica! |
